Our Mission

To inspire, create, and promote multicultural cuisines, programs, and support to underserved communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Moonstar Charitable Organization was created when a small group of community supporters came together to address an unmet need, hunger, that ties in to multiple social issues.  By collectively leveraging decades of expertise in food/catering service, nutrition, and network establishment, the founding members set out to create meal programs that would empower struggling families and individuals to create sustainable change.

Board of Directors

Daisy Li, Founder and Board Chair

Daisy Li is a well-known philanthropist in the Asian community and business leader in the San Francisco Bay Area. Honored with numerous community service awards over the years, Daisy opened an upscale premium seafood buffet restaurant in 1991 on Market Street in San Francisco with her husband and business partner, Paul Ng. Moonstar relocated its thriving business 15 years later to a larger location in Daly City. Over the past 30 years, Moonstar became the popular iconic location to host the now legendary “Baby’s 100 day old Birthday Party” events, tour groups, wedding and funeral receptions, and corporate events. In 2015, in a desire to serve the growing demand for healthy meals for seniors, Daisy decided to open MoonChef catering to expressly partner with non-profit organizations working with seniors to provide them with affordable delicious food and catering to this unmet need. Daisy was born in Hong Kong, studied Restaurant Management at Ryerson University and Hospitality Management at Oklahoma State University.  Daisy believes that food is medicine!

An advocate for San Mateo County businesses, Jack Tang is a former board member of the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce and has previously served in various leadership positions for Business Advantage Networking Group, a networking group focusing on better business solutions on the Peninsula. A San Jose State University graduate, Jack always finds time to squeeze in dad-jokes for his family because silliness is the best ingredient for happiness.
