Our Mission

To inspire, create, and promote multicultural meals, programs, and support to underserved communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Despite a major food pantry distribution network in our region – and a skyrocketing demand for food pantry services that even after the pandemic has not diminished –  a gap exists to meet the large demand for nutritious prepared meals.

Many food pantry recipients are not able to prepare healthy and delicious meals from food staples:

  • They may not have the cooking skills or equipment.
  • They may lack access to a kitchen.
  • They may be unhoused, elderly, disabled.
  • They simply may lack the available time outside of work to cook.
Moonstar Charitable, coupled with three decades of food service experience and its state of the art facilities, launched a prepared meal program (with an extra serving of love) to provide warm, nutritious meals that could sustain individuals through difficult times. We are also sensitive to the intrinsic value of serving multicultural food to the Bay Area’s diverse population, and seek to prepare meals that comfort and feel familiar.
With donated raw ingredients from Second Harvest, Moonstar Charitable’s kitchen converts these staples into prepared meals and distributes them via a non-denominational Second Harvest distribution partner at the River of Life Christian Church in Santa Clara. An estimated 2,500 meals can be produced in this way weekly to serve those who are unable to cook for themselves.

Our Vision

That everyone, irrespective of their socioeconomic status in the San Francisco Bay Area, has access to healthy, delicious food prepared with love.
